And just like that, we’re half way through!

It has been about ten days of poking myself, blood work and ultrasound repeated every other day, and an increase in dosage from day 7. On day 10, the doctor informed me that I’m ready for egg retrieval the next day, only one more trigger shot to go! It was incredibly fast, especially with Thanksgiving overlapped. A bit of a hassle to bring a refrigerated med to our grandparents. Jon ran a 5K Turkeytrot while I stayed home to help grandmom, won the second place in his age group, and got a free beer 🙂

Tuesday December 4 was the day of egg retrieval. New York had its first snow the night before, covering the Riverside Park in white. Jon took me to the hospital, sat in the waiting room with me, and was there when I woke up from anesthesia. How quick it was, I don’t know, but my heart filled with joy when I heard they got 15 eggs! My body responded well to medications. The nurse gave me some crackers, water, as I had been fasting for 12 hours, and sent me home with 2 extra belly warmers. The bumpy bus ride made me dizzy and threw up when I got home, but afterwards things were just fine.

The next day, exciting news! I had been staring at my phone constantly until I had to leave for meetings with my team members. And of course the clinic called during my meetings. They left a message to let me know that 7 eggs were successfully fertilized, and would continue developing in the next 5-7 days, before being taken to chromosome testings. The nurse also said: “until then, no news is good news”. Keeping my fingers crossed that they don’t call us in the next 7 days 🙂

More to come next week when we will get to know how many embryos get chromosome tested, and how many pass the test to be ready for embryo transfer, which I have been told the earliest will be at the end of January next year. Two more weeks until our trip back home to Seattle, and Christmas and New Year, and then back to New York for an amazing start of 2020!
